January 24, the day commemorating all the fallen brave
Herbert Norkus was a member of the Hitler Youth who lived in the District Beuselkietz in Berlin, Germany, controlled by communists. He was a hero and martyr of the movement since he was stabbed to death at 15 years by a communist mob while distributing flyers for the 1932 elections.
His murderers fled to the Soviet Union. The memorial services for his murder led to elaborate marches and demonstrations across Germany. His death was remembered year after year, on January 24, the day commemorating all the fallen brave Hitlerjugend. Baldur von Schirach
summarized
and the sacrifice of this child: "This little fellow has become in the myth of the young nation, a symbol of the spirit of self-sacrifice of all youth who carry the name Hitler. Many died in the battle of the young by the Reich: Norkus includes them all in the eternal fellowship of the Hitler Youth. Nothing unites us more closely to the Hitler Youth that knowledge of our bond of brotherhood with the dead child, nothing is more alive than this child killed, nothing is more immortal than that who has died. I'm most proud of that than anything else in my life: Herbert Norkus belong to us. " 88
